What is the Goal of PBIS Programs?
The goal of Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) is to help parents and school staff create and maintain a safe, supportive, learning environment, promote positive life skills, and reduce negative behaviors so that all children can succeed in school.  PBIS focuses on both individual behavior and environmental factors and has proven more effective than punitive discipline strategies. PBIS programs can address issues such as bullying prevention, social skills development, resiliency building, and discipline strategies.  At CGS all members of our community are participating in our PBIS program demonstrating every day that CGS is the BEST, by Being Responsible, Expressing Respect, putting Safety First, and showing Together We’re Ready.

CGS Kindergartners Learn How to Show "Whole Body Listening"

posted by Kristen Perrotti
During the month of October, all kindergarten classrooms at the CGS participated in a Guidance classroom lesson on Whole Body Listening. Whole Body Listening is a social thinking concept that teaches children how to listen with all body parts, not just their ears. Children often hear statements such as "pay attention" or "listen to me", however we often forget to explain what listening looks like to other people and what is feels like to the child. When teaching the concept, we need to be specific about which areas of listening we want students to focus on, for example, "Michael, I need you to listen with your feet right now". CGS is the BEST. When children demonstrate Whole Body Listening, they are conforming with the letter "T" for "Together We're Ready" to learn.
